  • A new Peruvian restaurant called Maty’s Authentic Peruvian Cuisine opened on Mon. Nov. 29 at 4371 Old Harrodsburg Rd. STE. 160 — near Ramsey’s Diner. The owner is a native of Lima, Peru + will offer Peruvian staples such as ceviche, arroz con pollo, and specialty potatoes. (Lexington Herald-Leader)
Development
  • The Richmond City Commission approved a purchase of 280 acres of property to be used to develop a new park complex. Plans for the space include sport courts, a dog park, bike trails, a fishing dock, group shelters + a 20,000-sqft playscape. The project is expected to cost ~$60 million dollars. (Richmond Register)

  • The US Forest Service announced that fees will increase at 32 recreation sites in Daniel Boone National Forest starting Sat., Jan. 1, 2022. Nine areas that are currently free will have fees added. Recreation areas included are camp sites, boat ramps + shooting ranges. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

  • Cuteness comes free for two weeks only. The Woodford County Humane Society + Quantrell Subaru are celebrating the 10th annual “No Adoption Fees” event. The event launched on Sat., Dec. 4 with 24 animals being adopted + runs until Sun., Dec. 19. Quantrell Subaru is picking up all adoption fees during this time. (LEX18)

  • UK student-athletes know how to hit the books. UK’s NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) was 92% for 2021. Those high rankings tied the record set last year by student-athletes. UK has improved or tied its GSR ranking every year since 2005. (UK NOW)
History
  • Yesterday — December 6 — was the official birthday of Clark County. On Dec. 6, 1792, Kentucky created Clark County. This was the first time a county was created out of two existing counties — Fayette + Bourbon. Winchester is the county seat of Clark County. (Localtonians)
Civic
  • The mayor’s office announced that Tiffany Michelle Brown has been named the city’s official Equity + Implementation Officer. In this role, Tiffany is tasked with overseeing the recommendations made by the Commission for Racial Justice and Equality. These recommendations are aimed at dismantling systemic racism in Lexington. 
Cause
  • The Hope Center has opened up a temporary warming shelter for those experiencing homelessness. The white tent — located at 298 W. Loudon Ave. — can accommodate up to 50 men who are 18+, will be staffed seven days a week + remain open until March. (ABC36)
