Today, weâre reminiscing on years past with Hayward Wilkirson, Director at the Kentucky Theatre + sharing how you can celebrate and support the next century.
History
1922 | The Kentucky Theatre opens bringing live music and theater to downtown Lexington. 1950s | The first major renovation of The Kentucky brings a new marquee. 1987 | A fire set at a neighboring restaurant spreads to The Kentucky Theatre causing heavy smoke + water damage closing it for five years. 1992 | The Kentucky celebrates its grand re-opening. 2012 | The nonprofit Friends of the Kentucky Theatre is created to help raise funds for upgrades including digital projection systems. 2020 | The theater closes due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 2021 | The theater re-opens under the management of Friends of the Kentucky Theatre.
Present Day
Hayward was a co-chair of the nonprofit for six years before assuming the role of director at the theater. Heâs also been a patron for ~30 years. âThe Kentucky Theatre is a magical place. You can travel anywhere around the world, into the future, and the past by seeing films here,â Hayward said. He added that he never gets tired of hearing âthe wowsâ of first-time visitors.

The Big 1-0-0h! Lexington Theatre Company announced that tickets are on sale for its annual fundraiser, Script to Table, at Fasig-Tipton. Award
Congratulations to Woodford County High School social studies teacher Amber Sergent who was named the 2023 Kentucky High School Teacher of the Year. Amber is a co-director of the summer school program, director of the Homework Club + an academic coach for the football. She received a $3,000 cash prize for the honor. đ (Lexington Herald-Leader)
Health
Thanks to Kentucky House Bill 604, UK is now home to the UK Cannabis Center. The bill also provides the center with a $2-million appropriation over the next two years. The center will expand research on the medical use of cannabis, including the risks + benefits when itâs used to treat certain conditions. (UK NOW)

UK Footballâs 2023 schedule

We know we are literally at the beginning of the 2022 UK Football season, but ready or not, the 2023 schedule has been released.
And this isnât just any regular lineup. For the first time since 2015, Alabama is coming to Kroger Field for the Wildcatsâ final home game on Sat., Nov. 11, 2023. Next yearâs Governors Cup Rivalry game will be played on the road in Louisville on Sat., Nov. 25.
Fun fact: UK Athletics is now accepting 2023 new seasonâŻticket deposits â current season ticket holders will automatically receive an invoice in February.
