In case you missed it — Monday night, members of the Fayette County Board of Education voted unanimously on some big ticket items to continue the board’s progress of long-range planning including construction developments + new schools.

Today, we’re breaking them down one-by-one and letting you know how you can share your voice.

Hamburg middle school | The board voted to move forward with the construction of the new school near Polo Club Boulevard.
  • Size: 172,000-sqft
  • Cost: $82.7 million
  • Developer: Rising Sun Developing
  • Need to know: This project, the final of the 2017 District Facility Plan stalled last year due to high construction costs. The new bid from Rising Sun Developing is under the board’s original projection of $96 million.
Career and Technical Education Center | The board voted to begin requesting bids to revamp the former Lexington-Herald Leader building at 100 Midland Ave.
  • Size: 162,000-sqft
  • Cost: TBD
  • Developer: TBD
  • Need to know: Currently, FCPS high school students attend career and technical classes think public services, welding, and carpentry, in buildings that are ~40 years old. The district has already received a $10 million grant from the state for the project.

Masterson Station elementary school | The FCPS Board voted to purchase land at 1411 and 1451 Greendale Rd. for a new elementary school — a project from the 2021 District Facility Plan.
  • Size: ~28 acres
  • Cost: ~$5.9 million
  • Developer: TBD
  • Need to know: The purchase of the property still needs final approval from the Kentucky Department of Education, but this school will help alleviate the need for more portable classrooms.

In an effort to provide transparency + gather public input, a “Building Forward Task Force” will be created. The group will be comprised of various community members including students, FCPS employees, local business leaders, realtors, and neighborhood associations members.
