Fayette County Public School Announces Three New Developments

In case you missed it — Monday night, members of the Fayette County Board of Education voted unanimously on some big ticket items to continue the board’s progress of long-range planning including construction developments + new schools.
Today, we’re breaking them down one-by-one and letting you know how you can share your voice. Hamburg middle school | The board voted to move forward with the construction of the new school near Polo Club Boulevard.
Need to know: This project, the final of the 2017 District Facility Planstalled last year due to high construction costs. The new bid from Rising Sun Developing is under the board’s original projection of $96 million.
Career and Technical Education Center | The board voted to begin requesting bids to revamp the former Lexington-Herald Leader building at 100 Midland Ave.
Size: 162,000-sqft

Need to know: Currently, FCPS high school studentsattend career and technical classes think public services, welding, and carpentry, in buildings that are ~40 years old. The district has already received a $10 million grant from the state for the project.

Masterson Station elementary school | The FCPS Board voted topurchase land at 1411 and 1451 Greendale Rd. for a new elementary school — a project from the 2021 District Facility Plan.
Size: ~28 acres
Cost: ~$5.9 million

Need to know: The purchase of the property still needs final approval from the Kentucky Department of Education, but this school will help alleviate the need for more portable classrooms.
Share your voice
In an effort to provide transparency + gather public input, a “Building Forward Task Force” will be created. The group will be comprised of various community members including students, FCPS employees, local business leaders, realtors, and neighborhood associations members. We’ll be sure to pass along details on how you can join when we know more.

Parking restrictions that were enacted for last Saturday’s home game will likely remain in place for the remainder of the football season. Lexington Police Department announced that parking on and around State Streetwill be prohibited on the days there are home football games. See the map. 🚗 (WKYT)

Thanks to an executive order from Gov. Andy Beshear, Fayette County residents will get to pay the 2021 vehicle property tax amount in both 2022 and 2023. If you’ve already paid your 2022 registration, you will receive a refund, but the Fayette County Property Valuation Administrator said it may take a few weeks. 💰 (Lexington Herald-Leader)
