We know the question on your mind, Lexingtonians — when’s it going to get cold? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for December, January, and February. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what winter will bring.

Think warm. This winter, Lexington has a 33-40% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
🌨️ Precipitation
Expect slightly more precipitation. Lexington has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average snow and rainfall amounts this winter.
What December has in store
Typically in Lexington, December’s temperatures fluctuate between an average low of 31.5°F and an average high of 43.9°F, but expect to see more of those mid-40° days this year. December is also the month that sees the shortest days, with an average of 9h and 35min of daylight.
Onward to January
January has consistently been the coldest month of the year in Lexington, with an average low of 25.7°F and an average high of 39°F. If you’re a fan of snow, this is when you can start to look for accumulation. The most likely months for snowfall in Lexington are January-April.
Will February be freezing?
February trends similarly to January in terms of temperature, with an average low of 28.8°F and an average high of 43.5°F. If you’re over the cold by this point, here’s some good news. February is when Lexington starts to see longer days, averaging 10h and 49min of daylight.

The annual Downtown Lexington Christmas Parade will be held this Sat., Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. + will run along Main Street, from Midland Avenue to Mill Street. The parade will feature a variety of organizations, bands, floats, and of course, Santa Clause. 🎄
The city is hosting a community-wide Ugly Sweater Contest in conjunction with the holiday parade. Submit a photo of you + your sweater by 11:59 p.m. on Wed., Nov. 30 for a chance to be featured as a guest of honor in the parade.
Shop
The West Sixth Farm, located in Frankfort at 4495 Shadrick Ferry Rd., announced it will be hosting a seasonal holiday market on Sat., Dec. 10 from 1-5 p.m. The event will feature local vendors selling handmade goods, craft beer, hot cocoa, and a special holiday menu from the West Sixth Cantina food truck. 🛍
A local coffee shop is also getting in on the seasonal shopping action. Lussi Brown Coffee Bar will be hosting a holiday pop-up eventevery Sunday until Christmas starting Dec. 4. Head to 114 Church St. from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. to shop from a new vendor every Sunday.
Watch
The Kentucky Theatre is partnering with the Girl Scouts to host a special screening of “The Muppets Christmas Carol” on Sat., Dec. 10 at 10 a.m. Tickets are free, but the theater is requesting attendees make a donation to The Center for Women and Children. 🎞

The UK football teamdefeated the Louisville Cardinals in a heated rivalry game on Saturday — 26-13. This was the last game of the regular season for the Wildcats + they finished this year with a record of 7-5. (Lexington Herald-Leader) 🏈
