Hello Monday.

August 08 2022

Hoppy trails 🍺

To celebrate the last day of our first-ever Drink Up Week, we wanted to share with you a fun program that rewards you for drinking local beer.

Yes, you read that right.

By exploring the Brewgrass Trail, you can earn cool Lexington-branded swag like t-shirts, hats + sweatshirts.

No app is required to explore the Brewgrass Trail, just scan the QR code to check in. | Photo by @visitlex

The Brewgrass Trail is sponsored by the Lexington Convention and Visitors Bureau, you know it best as VisitLex. And while the program has been around for a while, it recently got a bit of an update.

There’s now a digital passport that allows you to check in to all of the different Central Kentucky breweries you visit — no more pencil + paper passports.

How it works

Step 1 | Get your pass

Sign up for your digital Brewgrass Trail passport via text or email – no app download is necessary.

Step 2 | Download the pass

Once you’ve received your text or email, your pass is ready to go.

Pro tip: Add the pass to your home screen for easy access.

Step 3 | Visit + get prizes

Be sure to check in using each participating place’s pin number to win cool Lexington swag. Here’s a breakdown of the prizes:

  • Visit 6 breweries to earn a t-shirt.
  • Visit 12 breweries to win a baseball cap.
  • Visit all 26 to earn a sweatshirt.

Step 4 | Brag to your friends about how many breweries you’ve been to while wearing your cool Lexington gear.

That’s really it — download, visit, sip + repeat.

Click the button below to check out all 26 participating regional breweries. See ya out on the trail.

How you can help

Photo by the Kentucky National Guard

Thursday morning, Eastern Kentucky was hit with a devastating flash flood. Governor Andy Beshear has declared a state of emergency across the entire state in order to request federal help.

In his press conference, the governor said that the Kentucky River rose 12 feet in 12 hours + that more rain is expected.

While we aren’t in the business of reporting on bad news, we’re all about helping out our fellow Kentuckians when they’re in need. Here’s a rundown of what we know, and how you can help out.

  • Team Eastern Kentucky Relief Fund | Governor Andy Beshear has established this fund so that Kentuckians across the Commonwealth can donate financially to those in need. The money raised will be used to help families affected by the flooding.
  • New Frontier | This Eastern Kentucky-based clothing brand has designed a t-shirt that reads “Eastern Kentucky Strong.” All proceeds from this shirt will go directly to aid flood victims in Eastern Kentucky. They’ve partnered with Foundation for Appalachian Kentucky to make sure that the funds go towards water, food, clothing, and housing.
  • Call your family | With more rain expected, water levels are going to continue to rise. If you have family that lives in an area affected by this flooding, let them know that you have a bed, couch, or dry space for them to stay.

This story is still developing. The Lexington Fire Department has been sent to Eastern Kentucky to aid in relief efforts. Crews on the ground are still trying to determine the best way to get relief items delivered to those in need.

As we hear about more local donation options + volunteer efforts, we’ll keep you informed.

THE WRAP

Editor’s pick: I sat in on the governor’s press conference today to learn as much as I could about how Lexington can help out Eastern Kentucky. If you are a local business owner, or know of a local business, who is putting together an initiative to help out those affected by flooding, please send me that information. I’d love to share these relief efforts in the newsletter.

Missed yesterday’s newsletter? We lived it up with Thrive Kombucha.
