This Fri., Sept., 16 from 5-8 p.m. is another rendition of the LexArts Hop — when dozens of galleries + businesses stay open late for the public to view art, for free.
Special this month is the return of the ReImagine project — a unique fundraiser where local artists are chosen to “re-imagine” drawings submitted by local students. Let’s review, shall we?
Beginnings
ReImagine was started in 2014 by Lori Barnett, then executive director of Creative Alliance, and her daughter Grace. The former arts nonprofit ran the project from 2014-2019.
Arts Connect, a nonprofit dedicated to arts awareness in the community, has now revived the project. “We serendipitously bumped into each other at the Headley-Whitney Museum. I asked her [Lori] if we could join forces and take it on. It’s [ReImagine] is perfect for our spirit + mission,” said Kate Savage, Executive Director at Arts Connect.

How to see it
Stop by the Living Arts & Science Center, 362 N. Martin Luther King Blvd., during Gallery Hop to view this year’s projects. The students’ drawings will be side-by-side with the re-imagined pieces.
By the numbers
38 pieces of art
37 students submitted drawings
10 different local grade schools
29 local artists participating
How it works
The art is available for purchase via an online auction. Bidding is open now. Don’t worry, no financial information is needed upfront. Each piece has a starting price tag of $200 + the minimum bid increment is an additional $25.
The proceeds will be split three ways — among the artist, Arts Connect, and the student’s school to be used for the arts program + art supplies.
The auction will end at the closing reception held on Fri., Oct. 14 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Click here to view the full catalog.
