Having our newsletter be a part of your morning routine excites us.

Nothing gets us more fired up than delivering the most relevant news about our city. It’s important to us to fill the newsletter with information you truly care about. It’s our job to encourage you to explore other local zip codes, experience new things to do, and learn about the community around you.

This is a special time for us. It’s the one time a year when we ask you what topics and events you are most interested in, as a way to ensure we deliver the best content to you first thing every morning. In order to do that, we need to hear from you.

Let us know what you look forward to and what you want to see more of in the newsletter by taking our brief survey.

Here are the types of questions you can expect:
  • What topics are you most interested in reading about? Family fun or city history? Real estate or restaurant news?
  • What’s your favorite part of the newsletter?
  • Do you love or hate our new format?
Everything you share with us helps our team deliver the most relevant information about our city.

Now, let’s get to the money

To show our appreciation for your feedback, you’ll be entered into a drawing to win $500 cash. Sound like a deal?

Thanks in advance for your help — we’re looking forward to hearing from you.

As 4/20 approaches, Hometown Hero is asking law enforcement all the need-to-know questions about the legalities of CBD, Delta-9, and hemp.

Questions like:
  • Can police testing kits tell the difference between marijuana and hemp-derived THC?
  • Have K9 units adapted to hemp legalization?
  • What could you expect if you get pulled over with a bag of gummies?
Partaking? Get a free sample in time for 4/20 if you order by April 9.*
Watch the eye-opening conversation
Please note: Hometown Hero advises consumers to read the company’s terms & conditions, consult a physician before trying products, start only with small amounts, and to not consume Delta-9 before driving or before a drug test. News Notes
Arts
  • LexArts has announced this year’s Maker’s Mark x Keeneland collector bottles will hit the shelves today, just in time for the 2023 Keeneland Spring Meet. This will be the ninth and final contribution from artists Tyler Robertson, Andre Pater, and Sandra Oppegard for the collaboration.
Closing
  • Laura Lou Patisserie will be winding down its business at Nate’s Coffee in The Grove. Any orders or scheduled classes will still be honored before the shop officially closes down over the next few weeks. But don’t fret if you’ll miss Laura’s sweet treats — Natalia’s Pastry Shop will soon take over the spot.
Environment
  • A UK research team is exploring how to repair bridges around the state — with human hair. Yep, researchers from the College of Engineering are identifying sustainable resources to construct concrete. Using hair as fiber reinforcement, they have been able to mix leftover trimmings with binders, thus creating sheets of concrete. (The Lane Report)
Civic
  • We all know the struggle that is New Circle Road. Now, CivicLEX + Division of Planning’s Imagine New Circle Road want your input on it. Take this survey to give feedback on improvements like beautification, traffic, and walkability along North New Circle Road between Winchester and Richmond Roads.

Coffee and convenience: the perfect match

Coffee and kindness are a pretty good pair. | Photo by Brook Farrell
Thanks to their Arkansas roots, 7 Brew understands the need for Southern hospitality in the morning.

When patrons pull in to the new 7 Brew drive-thru at 4265 Harrodsburg Rd. in mid-May, they’ll be greeted by a person — not a menu board — to take their order + offer a side of kindness (which can be a rarity in the mornings).

The coffee shop will be slinging your favorites like lattes, smoothies, and even their own label energy drink, but the only food they serve are muffin tops so customers can make it to work on time.

“We have over 20,000 drink combinations when it comes to our flavors and what kind of drinks we offer,” Lexington regional manager Braxton Jones told us.

A second 7 Brew location will be coming to the former O’Charley’s along Richmond Road. We’ll keep you updated when that is expected to open.
