Where to watch fireworks and celebrate the Fourth of July

The Fourth of July is tomorrow, and Lexington has a lot happening. To help you make the most of your celebrations, we’re rounding up four events that are happening around town today and tomorrow.
Bring your blankets and lawn chairs to the Old Morrison Lawn at Transylvania University for a performance by the Lexington Philharmonic. A pre-show will take place from 5 to 7 p.m., then the show begins at 7:30 p.m.

Participate in or cheer on the runners in this year’s patriotic races. The 10K starts at 7:25 a.m. at the corner of Main Street and North Limestone (it will finish here as well). The Fun Run will follow with a start time of 8:30 a.m., beginning parallel to the 10K but ending at the same finish line. Today is the last day to register.
Head to the Courthouse Plaza to enjoy live music, family-friendly activities, food and drink vendors, and an art market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plus, the Fourth of July Parade will take place at 12 p.m. on Main Street.
Finish the day of festivities by watching the fireworks on Main Street and Oliver Lewis Way at 10 p.m.

Wednesday, July 5
19c: Art from the Kentucky Room Archive | Wednesday, July 5-Friday, July 14 | 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m. | Central Library Gallery, 140 East Main St., Lexington | Free | Explore this exhibit of pre-World War I art and photography from the Lexington Public Library’s own collection; open on weekdays only.
Thursday, July 6
Thursday Night Live | Thursday, July 6 | 5-8 p.m. | Fifth Third Bank Pavilion, 251 W. Main St., Lexington | Free | Head downtown for the perfect post-work wind down with your friends featuring live music from the Lauren Mink Band, tasty beverages, and delicious food.
The city’s curbside waste collection services will not operate on Tuesday, July 4. Residents and businesses that are typically serviced on Tuesdays will receive curbside waste collection on Wednesday, July 5.
Opening
We’re on cloud wine because Darling Wine Bar will open at Greyline Station — taking over the former spot of The Breeze — on Thursday, July 6 at 4 p.m. Enjoy the opening day celebrations with a cold glass of rosé while learning more about the bar’s wine club.
Number
85. That’s how many parking spaces the city will construct per its agreement with Main Street Baptist Church. This comes after four years of negotiations due to “inadequate parking” at the church caused by various developments. The parking spaces will be on church property + what remains of the Jefferson Street Viaduct.
Plan Ahead
Chaotic Good: Coffee Comics, & Games and Myriad Meadery will host Dungeons and Flagons — an evening of themed cocktails, mocktails, mead, and free-to-play games — on Monday, July 10. The event will take place at Myriad Meadery (730 National Ave., Lexington) from 6 to 10 p.m.
Arts
Calling all writers and wordsmiths. The Carnegie Center for Literacy & Learning is accepting interest statements from writers between the ages of 18 and 30 for the chance to win a writer cubby for one year. Those interested should submit a statement state by Saturday, July 15.
Got an old Blackberry laying around? Bring it to KY for KY (1315 Winchester Rd., #321, Lexington) for it’s Blackberry for a Blackberry exchange event with Ale-8-One, and you’ll receive a free four-pack of Blackberry Ale-8 (limited one four-pack per person while supplies last). All of the donated Blackberries will be recycled through the Lousiville Zoo’s partnership with ECO-CELL.
