As the Horse Capital of the World, Lexington is the gateway to Kentucky’s horse country. While many of us will get our fill of world-class thoroughbreds at Keeneland’s Fall Meet, there are so many fun ways to connect with the equine industry — like touring a horse farm.

Civic
  • Lexington Police Department is considering expanding body camera technology to start recording when they use vehicle sirens and lights. Currently, LPD body cams start when officers draw a gun or taser. The modification on both body + dash cams will be tested out for the next few months. (WEKU)
Cause
  • Tomorrow, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. is the 15th annual Ball Homes Night of Hope at the Lexington Opera House. The evening will serve as a fundraiser for The Hope Center and feature music, sharing stories, and discussion with featured speaker former MLB player Darryl Strawberry.
Plan Ahead
  • The Kentucky Theatre + Harry Dean Stanton Fest are teaming up for another edition of the annual CharacterFEST — celebrating the unsung heroes of film. This year’s event will take place Friday, Nov. 3-Saturday, Nov. 4 featuring film showings as well as Q&A opportunities with actor Kim Darby.
Concert
  • Wake me up before you go go to The Life and Music of George Michael, which is making a stop at the Lexington Opera House on Tuesday, Feb. 27. Tickets for the concert style show will go on sale this Friday, Oct. 20.

  • Kentucky Children’s Hospital (KCH) unveiled its newest gallery, “Pups of Color,” featuring a collection of portraits of the hospital’s therapy dogs. It was created through a partnership between Kentucky’s Arts in Healthcare and Child Life Programs by 12-year-old Katie Carmichael, a former patient at KCH. (WKYT)

  • For the first time under head coach John Calipari, UK men’s basketball is not ranked in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 poll. The Wildcats have been ranked No. 16, but Coach Cal reassured fans the team is aiming for NCAA championship No. 9. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

A new WalletHub study listed Lexington as No. 15 on its list of “Best & Worst Cities to Drive in,” up one spot from last year. Meanwhile, Louisville ranked No. 55 + Oakland, CA came in last at No. 100.

The list was determined based on 30 key indicators compared across 100 large cities. Metrics included:
  • Cost of ownership + maintenance
  • Traffic
  • Infrastructure
  • Safety
  • Access to vehicles and maintenance
