Kroger has broken ground on its new grocery store coming to the northside. The 123,000-sqft location will have 476 parking spaces and amenities like a pharmacy, liquor and wine store, Murray’s Cheese Shop, and Starbucks. It’s expected to be open for business in spring 2026. Community
Lexington community partners conducted a street survey last week to tally the number of people experiencing homelessness. The effort aims to better understand the unhoused population so the city can use the data when creating laws. Results are expected to be released later this month. (LEX18)
Environment
26.4 tons. That’s how much cardboard was recycled as UK Wildcats moved in for the semester. The university’s recycling committee also determined 2,077 gallons of water were dispensed at hydration stations — enough to offset 22,573 single-use bottles.
Civic
Lexington’s Government and Planning Committee voted to advance proposed changes to its short-term rental (STR) ordinance that includes limitations on the number of STRs in a neighborhood. The amendments will be discussed by the Lexington-Fayette Urban City Council, but it could take months before changes go into effect. (Lexington Herald-Leader)
