How many bags of spinach do you throw out a month? Probably more than you’d like to admit, right? Statistics show that Americans waste $161 billion worth of food annually — the average family of four throws out $1,500 each year. Buying locally might just motivate you to think before your food — and your money — wind up in the trash.
Food for thought
Try CSAs on for size. CSA stands for Community Supported Agriculture. Local farms offer up shares of their crops— think a subscription or membership — to the community each season. Your subscription gets you a box of specially-selected local goodies. They vary per farm, but CSA boxes contain everything from fruits and vegetables to meat + eggs.
