Shopping small is a big deal

Small Business Saturday, an initiative dedicated to celebrating and supporting small and locally-owned businesses + the impact they have in our communities, is on Saturday, Nov. 30.

The event falls between two of the biggest shopping days of the year — Black Friday and Cyber Monday — and has become an annual shopping tradition for many since its establishment by American Express in 2010.

If you’re looking to join in on the festivities this year, take a peek at Molly + Sam’s personal favorites in town — and some extra suggestions from our Instagram followers.

Poppy & Pomelo | City Editor Molly loves visiting this Woodland Triangle shop. From locally designed greeting cards to pet toys + puzzles — this place has everything. Pro tip: head to the back bar to make your own candle and grab a bev at Wick & Mortar.

Chaotic Good | Don’t let the name fool you, Chaotic Good has the perfect calm + cozy atmosphere for everything from quiet bites to tabletop gaming. City Editor Sam loves to savor the affogato made with espresso and Graeter’s ice cream while browsing the latest comics.

Looking for more spots for your shopping spree? Check out these small businesses our followers love:
  • Story Lexington | “Sweet gifts and lovely plants.” — @nestberries
  • Lexington Salt Cave | “Absolutely magical experience at the cave, while also so therapeutic. Lara, takes care of every patron with so much warmth and tenderness.” — @illuminationmentoring
  • The Kentucky Shop | “Love the shirts, [friendly] staff and great place to visit.” — @marysnapeswan
Want to share some more small business love? Make sure to tag your favorite local businesses in the comments of our post.

Reminder: Shopping + supporting small isn’t limited to just this day — we love letting our local businesses shine all year long in our collection of City Guides.
