We’re putting together a map of unofficial locations that deserve a historical marker. We can’t wait to show you the finished product, but in the meantime, we thought we’d share a submission:
“African Cemetery No. 2. This is the earliest recorded cemetery in Lexington to be organized, owned, and managed by African Americans... Notably, over 180 individuals associated with the Equine Industry are buried and recognized at the cemetery making it the only cemetery in the city, state, region, country, or world that so prominently acknowledges a singularly important local industry and the men and women who were significant in it.” — Mark C.

Beginning Sunday, Dec. 1, the Valley View Ferry will close for routine maintenance. The ferry, which floats as many as 13,000 passengers a month, services commuters between Fayette, Jessamine + Madison counties. (LEX18)

Origins Jazz Series is giving the gift of good music with the return of its holiday special “A Vince Guaraldi Holiday + Duke Ellington Nutcracker Suite” on Sunday, Dec. 1 at The Kentucky Theatre. The pay-what-you-can concert will once again feature the Isaiah J. Thompson Quartet.

The GoodGiving Challenge begins on Tuesday, Dec. 3, giving Lexingtonians the opportunity to support nearly 200 of their favorite local organizations.
