Winner: Chevy Chase Inn
Known as the oldest bar in Lexington, this longstanding establishment received 53% of votes from LEXtoday readers. It opened in 1933 and locals know it as a place where they can grab a drink + a bite to eat or get entertained by live performers.
Big Blue Building
Soaring 31 stories, 39% of readers thought the Lexington Financial Center was the stand out historical marker contender. After all, we know it as the tallest building in the world — and nobody can convince us otherwise.
Oliver Lewis Way
This extension of Newton Pike received 8% of reader votes. In 2010, it was dedicated to Oliver Lewis, a Lexington-born, African-American jockey who won the first Kentucky Derby in 1875.

Toyota is set to invest $922 million to build a paint facility at its Georgetown plant, adding about 1 million sqft to the site. The expansion is expected to open in 2027 and will make efforts to reduce carbon emissions + water usage. (LEX 18)
Traffic
Lexington is working to add two traffic-calming devices to West High Street, aimed at improving pedestrian safety. Construction to install a raised crossing and a speed bed began earlier this week but has reduced traffic to one lane. It’s expected to be finished by Friday, Dec. 20. (WEKU)
Sports
UK’s 2024 football season has wrapped, but we’ve already got our eyes on 2025. The team announced their schedule for next year, which opens with a home game against Toledo on Saturday, Aug. 30. If you’re interested in scoring season tickets, check out the deposit process.
Development
Free Wi-Fi is being installed at Gatton Park — a forthcoming development behind Rupp Arena. The technology will be installed in light posts, so it won’t be visible, but will improve the guest experience + benefit vendors. Visitors will be able to use the Wi-Fi when the park opens in summer 2025. (WKYT)

We smell a rivalry heading our way — or maybe it’s a plate of Cincinnati-style chili. This Saturday, select Skyline Chili locations will offer red or blue noodles with its Spaghetti Ways dishes. The Salvation Army is looking for last minute donations for its Angel Tree program. Distribution day is Monday, Dec. 16, and the effort aims to help ~1,500 children in the Central Kentucky Area receive holiday gifts. (WKYT)

If you have a specialty license plate, buckle up for a new renewal process in Kentucky. Starting in January 2025, annual fees for the plates will not be exclusively in December. Rather, drivers will make payments during their birth month to help county clerks process the fees. (Fox 56)
