Ever wondered how you can help improve the quality of streams and creeks in Fayette County?

Meet the Stormwater Quality Projects Incentive Grant program: a local initiative providing financial assistance for projects designed to improve water quality.

Think: reducing stormwater runoff, cutting pollution, and keeping our waterways healthy — all while making a positive impact on your neighborhood, school, or business.

Dive into the details

To be eligible for a grant, projects must meet at least one of these objectives:
  1. Improve water quality in streams by reducing rainwater runoff that carries pollutants to our waterways
  2. Address stormwater concerns on private property, whether for existing sites or new developments
  3. Help reduce runoff + flooding
  4. Educate people on how to improve water quality and reduce stormwater runoff pollution
Applications from neighborhood associations, places of worship, businesses, schools, and nonprofits will be accepted.

Find your funding fit

The program offers three types of grants:

Class A neighborhood
  • Supports neighborhood-wide stormwater management efforts, from educational workshops to installing sustainable stormwater solutions.
  • Q+A sessions are scheduled for Monday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 19 (during Water Week), with applications due Friday, May 2.
Class B education
  • Provides funding for educational programs and events that raise awareness about stormwater management. Think: A school hosting workshops on water conservation.
  • Q+A sessions are scheduled for Monday, March 17, and Wednesday, March 19 (during Water Week), with applications due Friday, May 2.
Class B infrastructure
  • Focuses on infrastructure improvements to help manage stormwater, reduce runoff, and improve water quality.
  • Q+A sessions are scheduled for Monday, June 23, and Wednesday, June 25, with applications due Friday, July 25.

And the accolades just keep on coming. Lexington was once again featured in Southern Living Magazine, this time on “The South’s Best Cities 2025" list. And to sweeten the news, we landed at No. 10 on the list of 20, beating out cities like Austin, TX and Orlando, FL.

The voting process was conducted via online survey given to Southern Living readers July 10-August 21 of 2024.

While the listing noted that the scenery alone made the Horse Capital of the World worth the trip, it specifically cited attractions like Shaker Village, our bustling + busy downtown, as well as Greyline Station.

If you’re thinking, “Didn’t we just see this news already?” You’re not wrong, Lexington is making headlines. Let’s recap:
Now, if you were to feature Lexington on a top list, what would it be? Let us know.
