Last week, Mayor Linda Gorton submitted her proposed budget for fiscal year 2025-2026. Totaling over $830 million, the plan funds everything from new fire trucks to the Lexington Children’s Museum. With roads and traffic an increasingly popular pain point, let’s look at how the mayor plans to allocate funds for the Complete Streets initiative.
$14 million for paving
$1 million to install and upgrade ADA sidewalk ramps
$1 million to connect existing sidewalks
$500,000 for four new and rebuilt traffic lights
$400,000 for the homeowner sidewalk assistance program
$400,000 to paint lane stripes
$150,000 for neighborhood street safety
$125,000 for a raised pedestrian crosswalk over Short Street
$75,000 in matching funds for paved paths along Alumni Drive and Harrodsburg Road
If approved the mayor’s budget would take effect July 1 of this year.
