If you’re like us, you sometimes pick your race horse by its name. It’s partly why our money’s on Journalism to win this Saturday’s Kentucky Derby.
But look around town, and you’ll notice that many famous race horses have lent their names to Lexington-area landmarks, streets + neighborhoods.
Hamburg, the growing neighborhood hub for shopping, dining + entertainment carries the name of the historic race horse that grazed on land there before the turn of the 20th century, back when it was still a farm. Hamburg was named the American Horse of the Year in 1898.
Okay, we’ll rein it in — but if you’re interested in more equestrian namesakes click below for the mane event.
Swim trunks with pockets. These quick-drying swimsuit trunks have a hidden pocket built into an anti-chafe compression liner — perfect for keeping phones, keys, and cash safe on beach days.

Does anyone else miss the days when Lexington socialite + legendary party girl, Anita Madden threw those lavish televised Derby Eve parties that were almost as “decadent + depraved” as the Kentucky Derby itself? RIP Anita — we’re raising our first julep of the season to you.
