Crestwood-based Sweet Dillies are crunchy right out of the jar, starting sweet and finishing dill. | Brent Schanding/LEXtoday
International Pickle Week is such a big dill that it spans 10 whole days in 2025. Here are three ways to relish this time through Tuesday, May 27.
South Wrigley Chicago Dog
How do you make a good hot dog better? Put a pickle on it. A LEXtoday reader Elisabeth DeForest tipped us off to this dog that’s topped with all the sides + served on a poppy-seed bun. After we checked it out ourselves, we’re kind of mad they didn’t tell us sooner. Pro tip: Resist the urge to cut it in half — just bite into it.
Pick up a jar of Pop’s Pepper Patch pickles
Lovers of Kentucky Proud pickle products probably already know that HABAGARDIL is the special blend of habaneros, garlic + dill that inspired these pickle packers to spin-off more than half a dozen flavors in the past 30 years. The pickles are widely available at Lexington-area Liquor Barn retailers.
DIY dill-icious dip
Want your friends to think you’re the real dill in the kitchen? Just whip up this dip from Lexington-based Flag Fork Herb Farm by stirring in some mayo + sour cream. Chill it in your fanciest dish and serve it at your weekend gathering. Pro tip: Pass it off as your own recipe + we promise not to tell.

Summer shindings are better when they’re local — and sustainable. Whether you’re hosting a backyard BBQ or heading to a community event, small choices (like where you shop and what you sip) make a big impact.
Local favorite West 6th Brewing is one of many businesses certified through Lexington’s Green Check program, a free initiative that helps organizations improve their eco-friendly practices through waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water conservation.
Want to support more organizations doing good for the planet and our community? Just look for the Green Check badge, recognized as a sign that they’re going the extra mile for sustainability.
And while you’re stocking up for your next event, don’t forget: aluminum is the most recyclable drink packaging, beating out plastic and glass every time.
Let’s raise a can (of local brew) to smart choices and a cleaner, greener Lexington.
Visit the Carnegie Center Wednesday, May 28 at 6 p.m. for a poetry reading and international tea tasting. Part of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, this event features AAPI authors with ties to LEX sharing their work.

Drew Ellis got to touch them all after a deep drive into left field went the distance, launching the Lexington Legends to victory over the Staten Island FerryHawks. Shortly after this game, Ellis was signed by the San Francisco Giants.

Thank you to Mileta for recently inviting us to a dinner featuring Italian inspiried cuisine from executive chef Alex Green and visiting chef Cole Jeanes. We went gaga for the tomato infused mafaldine corte — we loved it so much we forgot to take a picture. Plus, our server Jacqueline treated us like royalty. 14/10 would do again.
