Post of the Day

Cecil gorilla Louisville Zoo POD
The scientific name for western lowland gorillas? Gorilla gorilla gorilla. On Saturday, July 12, the Lousiville Zoo will host a celebration for 27-year-old male gorilla Cecil, who will move to the Jones Family Gorilla Preserve at the San Francisco Zoo, where he’ll be introduced to a community of three female gorillas —in the hopes that he may eventually lead a new family group.

Cecil was born in the Cincinnati zoo in 1998 and has been a member of the Louisville Zoo’s gorilla bachelor community since 2004. Visitors this weekend will be able chat with gorilla keepers and sign a card wishing Cecil farewell on his journey. Learn more about western lowland gorillas.
