Lexington Burger Week is here. Now through Sunday, July 13, 30+ restaurants are offering $7 burgers and burger-inspired bites.

Here are a few that we’re ready to get stamped on our map:
  • Chef D’s Barrel-tastic Burger | Barrel 53 | This one comes complete with housemade bacon bourbon jam, queso, tangy mustard — and it’s topped with a deviled egg.
  • Sassy Shroom | Sassy Bleu | A vegan-friendly option with crispy fried oyster mushrooms and house-made chipotle sauce.
  • Wise Bird’s Bluegrass Brie-zy Burger | Little Fork | Melted brie, apple chutney, and dijonnaise top this tasty burger.
Now for some Burger Week best practices:
  • Download the app to check in at the participating locations, so you can be entered to win prizes.
  • Be patient + kind. It’s a busy week — don’t let the hanger do the talking.
  • Your bill will be cheaper, so please still tip your servers generously.
  • These burgers sell like hotcakes $7 burgers, so they might run out. Try again — maybe a little earlier — tomorrow.

News Notes

Sports

Randall Cobb and Tayshaun Prince, who played for University of Kentucky’s football and basketball teams, respectively, will be inducted into the Kentucky Sports Hall of Fame this September. Since being Wildcats, Cobb and Prince led illustrious careers in the NFL + NBA. Other Kentucky inductees include Carole Liedtke and Nora Martin Ross. (LEX18)

Closing

After three years of dishing up sweet treats for Brannon Crossing customers, Frozen in Time is closing its doors. You can stop in to wish them well and grab a bite for the road through the end of July. We recommend the Dole whip. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

Traffic

Speed tables (think: speed bumps, but longer and flatter) are coming to West High Street. Expect closures between Merino Street and Madison Place through Friday, July 25, while crews complete the tables and improve drainage.

Drink

A new permanent addition is joining the Buffalo Trace lineup: Eagle Rare 12 Year. The elusive release has rarely been spotted on shelves, and it’s not expected to appear in the distillery gift shop. If you’re eager to give it a swirl, you’ll have to search for it in restaurants + bars. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

Community

After 175 years, The Lexington Cemetery remains a very special place due to the original vision of its founders. It has ample space for burials for the next 100 years and numerous other memorialization options — mausoleums, columbaria, niches, and scattering gardens among them. Learn more.*

Ranked

No. 43. That’s where Lexington’s University of Kentucky Albert B. Chandler Hospital landed on Newsweek’s third annual ranking of America’s Best Cancer Hospitals. Baptist Health Lexington claimed the 145th spot. Surveys from medical professionals, patient outcomes, and other publicly-available data points were factored into the rankings. (Newsweek)
