Lexington is finalizing plans for a new downtown government building at 200 W. Vine St., which could involve renovating or replacing the former BB&T building.

Construction could possibly start in 2026, funded with $40 million from the city’s capital reserve and a public-private partnership.

The site features a parking garage rebuilt in 2021, which includes more than 200 parking spaces.

The current main government building at 200 E. Main St. has been in use since 1984 but was meant to be temporary.

Pack your bags, let’s go on an adventure. | Photo by David Coyle, provided by Blue Grass Airport
Flying is exciting, but airports can be stressful. Our guide makes Blue Grass Airport easier, with master plan updates, parking tips, and info on all 18 nonstop flights.

Pro tip: Fayette County Public Schools’ fall break starts Monday, Sept. 29 — expect heavier travel and plan ahead.

What to know

  • Parking | No 3 a.m. bestie drop-off? No problem — LEX offers short-term, long-term, and valet parking.
  • TSA | TSA says security takes about 5 minutes off-peak and 15 minutes during peak (6–9 a.m.) — but peak times shift during busy travel seasons. Arrive two hours early to keep things stress-free.
  • Reminder | As of May 7, you now need a REAL ID (or another TSA-approved form of identification) to board commercial flights in the US.
  • Flight status | We recommend checking with your airline, but for a quick update, you can also use the airport’s dashboard.
