Lexington is finalizing plans for a new downtown government building at 200 W. Vine St., which could involve renovating or replacing the former BB&T building.
Construction could possibly start in 2026, funded with $40 million from the city’s capital reserve and a public-private partnership.
The site features a parking garage rebuilt in 2021, which includes more than 200 parking spaces.
The current main government building at 200 E. Main St. has been in use since 1984 but was meant to be temporary.
