A message from our team

We receive hundreds of thank-you emails every week, and often you ask how you can support us. If you’ve gotten something out of being subscribed to LEXtoday, like finding that life-changing concert in our Events section or using our City Guides to plan the perfect way to spend the day with family, we couldn’t be more honored to be a part of your life — and we’re calling on you now to help support our mission with a donation.

Thanksgiving pie picks and order deadlines

We’ve told you where to dine or carry out on Thanksgiving. Now, we’re moving on to the sweet stuff — dessert. With Turkey Day just around the corner, there’s still time to snag a pie (or two) from these local bakers before orders close.

We’ve all heard the saying, “desserts spelled backwards is stressed,” but with all the local bakeries and sweet spots around Lexington, that feels like an easy fix. Say goodbye to stress and hello to these restaurants + bakers still accepting orders for Thanksgiving pies.

Stop throwing out your old denim. Recycle it through Cotton’s Blue Jeans Go Green™ program instead.

It’s simple: Find a participating retailer near you, drop off your well-loved denim (for free), and become a part of this green initiative.

How will your jeans be recycled? Blue Jeans Go Green™ will transform them into insulation for houses, pet beds, food packaging, and more.

Answered

Did you pass the test? Food & Wine magazine studied Thanksgiving 2024 Instacart trends to give you Kentucky’s most popular pie. Nationally, the reigning champs are pumpkin, apple, and pecan, but tastes have proven to vary regionally with chocolate pie as Kentucky’s winner. (Food & Wine)

Closing

Dumplings Noodles, a local Chinese restaurant, announced it will be permanently closing the evening of Sunday, Nov. 16, according to a social media post. The business is offering a 20% discount for customers who visit today, tomorrow, or their final day of service.

Cause

Goldenrod Tattoo and a local artist are collaborating to support Lexington students this holiday season. Through a limited-time sticker sale and tattoo giveaway, proceeds will help stock food pantries at Jessie Clark Middle and Lafayette High’s Family Resource Centers. (FOX 56)

Development

Kentucky State Parks are getting a winter refresh. With $130 million in state funding, several parks — including Lake Cumberland, King Lake, and Carter Caves — are being renovated to update rooms, facilities, and infrastructure. You can still enjoy all that Lexington’s green spaces have to offer during the off-season upgrades. (LEX 18)

Arts

Kentucky’s growing film industry is making its mark. Since launching in 2022, the state’s film incentive program has drawn more than 250 productions and created 27,000 jobs. With up to 35% in tax credits, officials say it’s attracting new talent — and bringing Kentucky natives back home to film. (WKYT)

“I really enjoy this website so I’m gonna give you 25 bucks, but if you misuse it and start getting politically motivated, I’m dropping it.” That’s what reader Jack K. said during our last fundraising campaign, and we’re proud to say that LEXtoday remains politics-free, now and forever.
