Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day. You can honor the life + legacy of King by attending the 2026 Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Celebration at the Central Bank Center lobby.

Following the 1 p.m. Freedom March, a commemorative program will feature keynote speaker Rev. Devon Jerome Crawford and a photo exhibition titled “Witness to History: The Photography of Moneta Sleet, Jr.,” which will be viewable at the Lyric Theater and Cultural Arts Center following the program from Tuesday, Jan. 20 to Friday, Jan. 30.

Legacy

Former Lexington Police Chief Larry Walsh, who retired in 2001 after 34 years of service to the community, has died. Chief Walsh attended the F.B.I. National Academy in Washington, D.C., was a two-time awardee of Officer of the Year, and preceded his police career with service in the Air Force. (WKYT)
