Lexington loves its small businesses. Last month, we asked our readers to share which local small businesses they love or own, and you all came through.
In honor of spring and the return of bright colors, we’re highlighting a few arts-based businesses in town.
Arts
Midway Art Studios | 100 E. Main St. (second floor) “I joined the studio in February 2026 in order to have a dedicated space to share my art with the public. I also have a space to create and love spending time with this group of like-minded individuals!” — Studio Artist Tessa Habash
This art studio is open to the public on Fridays and Saturdays to view art and chat with the artists. Bonus: Check out the free community coffee bar.
Studio Mel Designs | 309 N. Ashland Ave. “We believe murals matter because they live in everyday spaces and can completely transform how a place feels.” — Co-owner Lynsay Christensen
Owned by twin sisters Lynsay Christensen + Hayley Harris, Studio Mel has painted more than 42 murals across Kentucky. If you’re not in the market for a mural, we recommend shopping their colorful wall art.
Egg Hunt & Family Farm Days | Saturday, April 4-Saturday, April 25 | Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill, Harrodsburg | $8+ | Grab tickets to hop out to an epic Egg Hunt on April 4, then join Family Farm Days on April 11, 18, and 25 to meet baby animals, enjoy wagon rides, and participate in loads of activities.*
Last week, Kentucky’s state House of Representatives voted to impeach Fayette Circuit Judge Julie Goodman, whose case will now go to the Kentucky Senate. This marks the first time since Kentucky created a statewide unified court system (1976) that the state house has impeached a sitting judge. (Lexington Herald-Leader)
Film
Lexington-based actor Steve Zahn’s production company, Macaroni Art Productions, will release its first film this week: “She Dances.” The film stars Zahn and his daughter, Audrey, and was filmed in and around Lexington. See it at the Kentucky Theatre during upcoming special screenings.
Eat
Competition is heating up as local restaurants battle for a spot in the next round of Burger Mania 2026 — and the title of Burger Mania Champion. See participating burgers and discover your next favorite bite.*
Number
$1.4 million. That’s roughly how much Kentucky American Water is investing in a local water infrastructure upgrade. The company will replace ~0.5 miles of an aging water main, with plans to work Monday-Friday this month on residential streets around Lisa Court.
Outdoors
Do you like free coffee and keeping your community clean? Join the inaugural Pick up Perks Day this Saturday, March 28 to help clean up Woodland Park and Castlewood Park + enjoy complimentary coffee from A Cup of Common Wealth and Leestown Coffee.
Derby
Did you know that horses have to finish in the top five placings of qualifying races for the chance to earn a spot at the starting gate in the Kentucky Derby? Check out the leaderboard to stay updated on which horses could make it, like Class President, who was bred, raised, and owned by the local WinStar Farm.

The Buy
A customizable body pillow for head-to-toe comfort. Seamlessly adjust the fill to your ideal level for plush, full-body support all night long. Plus, it’s machine washable + never loses its shape and softness after multiple washes.
I’ve been exploring Kentucky Bourbon Trail’s new, customizable “Build Your Own Bourbon Trail” trip builder. The feature lets you set a trip (in my test, I set it to three days) and drag different experiences, restaurants, and accommodations into each “day.” You can search by categories such as shopping, distillery tours, and parks across various regions in Kentucky. It’s pretty neat.
