Solarize Lexington — a program that connects property owners to discounted sustainable energy — announced that it is extending its application deadline.
“Launched just four months ago, Solarize Lexington has already proven its worth, providing homeowners with a trusted installer, lower prices, and guidance for switching to solar energy,” said Mayor Linda Gorton during a press conference at one of the program’s participating homes.
Now, homeowners have until Friday, Sept. 1 to apply and inquire about the initiative to see if they are a good fit. Although the program is geared towards homeowners, Program Manager Jada Griggs says places of worship, nonprofits, and small businesses are also encouraged to apply.
According to Mayor Gorton, participants have already committed to installing nearly 500 kilowatts of residential solar power, which would be equivalent to saving around 14,000 tons of CO2 emissions.
