You dressed up, why not dress up your tailgate? | Photo by Kate McClung
The 2023 Keeneland Fall Meet returns this Friday, Oct. 6, bringing world class thoroughbreds + thousands of visitors to the Horse Capital of the World.
Before we get into building our perfect local tailgate spread, let’s take a look at some quick picks as you plan your visit.
If you haven’t already, get your tickets. Prices vary per day, ranging from $7 to $150.
Remember: There’s no racing on Mondays or Tuesdays, but you can see take a Morning Works Tour or eat at The Track Kitchen. Watch what the pros told us to order.
Also, consider this your heads up to book any October dinner reservations ASAP.

The setup
First things first, know the dos + don’ts for tailgating at Keeneland. The Hill and The Meadow are the most spacious for hosting larger groups, but you can also snag a parking spot in the Paved Parking Rows.
Bonus: The Hill will host live music every Friday-Sunday, bringing in acts like Restless Leg String Band + Grayson Jenkins to add to the already immaculate vibes.
Set the scene with equestrian accents from Syers Browning. Think: ice buckets, decorative napkins, and julep cups.
Stirrup and snaffle servewear paired with horse and jockey placemats + tumblers from Pomegranate are a winning bet.
Elevate your cocktail-making game with local mixes from Gents Original, or keep it simple with an ice cold Ale-8.
As always, bet and drink responsibly + remember to order your Ubers and Lyfts ahead of time.

Go See Trees Fall Challenge
Wellington Park marks the spot. | Photo by Skip Burke.
Just in time for Fall Break, and changes in the foliage, Live Green Lexington wants you to take a “tree-cation” with its Go See Trees challenge.
Celebrating the efforts of the Reforest the Bluegrass campaign over the years, Go See Trees invites the community to explore our area parks + to see the growth of our expanded urban tree canopy.
A sign at each site will pose a question — write your answer in the tree’s corresponding box on your booklet.
Once completed, email a photo of your passport or drop it off at any branch of the Lexington Public Library, Raven Run Nature Sanctuary, McConnell Springs Park, or the Kenwick, Dunbar, and William Wells Community Centers.
Bonus: You’ll be rewarded for your efforts.
Visit eight trees to receive a tree-themed enamel pin + one entry into the grand prize raffle.
Visit all 12 trees to receive the enamel pin + three entries into the raffle.

This best-selling crewneck sweater. Because the comfy, pullover shape can be customized to your style, thanks to colors from nutmeg to apricot to rose red.
Here are my pro tips for a easy breezy time at Keeneland — don’t wear spiky heels, wear layers + dresses that hit below the knee (the wind will get ya every time) and of course, at least one Keeneland Breeze is a must.
