Development

The Commons is anything but

Less than a mile outside of downtown on Main Street, the development formerly known as Turner Commons, is quickly materializing and on its way to becoming the next big district in town.

Inklings of the project came to light in early December 2021. Tucked down a hill at 1301 W. Main St., what once was a one-mile stretch of concrete and old tobacco warehouses, is now a mixed-use community bustling with businesses.

The 40-acre development was rebranded as The Commons this past August to represent the developers vision of “Uniting Life, Work, and Play.” And just in time for the new year, renderings were released of its new entryway.

The design’s aesthetic focuses on biophilia, with plants, inviting green spaces, and well-lit signage. Overall, the development will feature:
  • Energy-forward designs, including nature walking trails and green buildings
  • Retail outlets, restaurants, entertainment complexes, short-term rentals, office space, and a TBD event venue
  • Pet parks and grooming stations
  • A sky lounge
  • Electric vehicle charging stations
