You all found love in a lot of places in LEX. | Graphic by 6AM City
For Valentine’s Day 2024, we made a map of local places where our readers have made memories. We asked for your help compiling everything from proposals to making friends. You did not disappoint.
There’s a whole lot of love in LEX. | Map made with Proxi
Explore these local love stories by clicking on the hearts, but there’s just a few love stories that we just had to share:
The Kentucky Theatre | “My husband and I went here for our first date. Some friends happened to be seeing the same movie and sat several rows back, lightly heckling us. They took a picture of the back of our heads that we now cherish. Two years later, he proposed outside of the theater using the marquee. Easiest and best decision I’ve ever made.” — Audra S.
The Mad Potter | “Every year, my husband & I celebrate Valentine’s Day at this local pottery painting shop. It’s so cool to have items painted personally by us all around our home celebrating our love for each other.” — Anonymous reader
Talon Winery |“We matched on Hinge, but had met 2 years before through a mutual friend while we were both dating other people. I agreed to a first date, but told him not to make it boring (dinner, etc.). He responded, ‘How about my friend’s wedding Friday, then Saturday and Sunday on the lake?’ I agreed, he sent me a list of what to pack for the weekend, then stole me away for a 3 day ‘first date,’ haha. Needless to say it went well and the rest is history!” — Audrey B.
Kroger Field |“Well, we met in a town west on 64, but Kroger Field (aka Commonwealth Stadium) will always hold a special place for us as that’s where he surprised me with a proposal at halftime of the Florida game in 2023! We love it so much we are getting married here too!” — Erin W.
Now we’re really feeling the love.

Artist announced + new sculpture unveiled for Old Frankfort Pike corridor
The Louisville-based artist also has work at UK’s Singletary Center. | Artist rendering by Dave Caudill
A new original sculpture will make its home on Old Frankfort Pike later this year. After a months-long search, Louisville artist Dave Caudill was selected to create the artwork near the entrance of the Lexington Detention Center.
Mayor Linda Gorton said that the proposal, dubbed “The Birth of Hope,” reflects, recognizes, and pays tribute to individuals that are incarcerated, as well as the public servants that work there.
“This work of art will be a beacon of hope and renewal to those who come and go from the Detention Center, and will add to the rich history of our arts community,” Gorton said.
“The Birth of Hope” features three beams joined at the top, with a nest and colorful flames bursting through the top.
“This sculpture and its theme will become an icon for the facility, and will help further the recognition of the Detention Center as a positive force in Lexington,” said Caudill.
