This Saturday, March 23, kids ages 8-14 are invited to LexArts’ Saturday Sessions from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to view works from rock and roll photographer Don Aters, then practice their own skills with live performances from Lexington Music Education’s Rock School. Good luck, Wildcats. The UK men’s basketball team will play in the first round of the NCAA tournament today against Oakland at 7:10 p.m. If they win, they will move on in the bracket and play on Saturday, March 23. Keep up with the tournament + scores on the NCAA website.

Head to The Kentucky Theatre next Monday, March 25 at 7 p.m. for the 2024 Kentucky Writers Hall of Fame induction ceremony. The event is free + select books from the honorees will be available for purchase. Six new writers will be inducted including Mary Ann Taylor Hall and George C. Wolfe.
Concert
The first of the spring + summer outdoor concert series has been announced. Tahlsound will kick off its season on Sunday, April 28 at its usual spot, the Oleika Temple Great Lawn. Keep an eye out for the lineup to be announced.

Wood you beleaf it? In an effort to expand Lexington’s tree canopy, the city announced a new initiative called Lex Grow Trees.
Lexington-Fayette Urban County Council has allotted $1.5 million for the program, which will be put toward:
Planting new trees
Making sure existing trees are taken care of
Hosting educational sessions that share the importance of trees for our economy, environment, health, and society
Applications are being accepted now for the first round of funding — $500,000 with a single maximum award of $100,000. Nonprofits, neighborhood associations, and businesses are encouraged to apply by April 26.
Lex Grow Trees will host two learning sessions to share tree-planting tips + best practices for grant application.
