News Notes
Development
  • UK Healthcare has decided to switch gears with its hospital in Hamburg. Instead of following initial plans, which called for community care, the 41 acres will now be used for specialty services, including cancer + orthopedic. UK Healthcare has issued an RFP for potential partners. (WEKU)
Try This
  • There’s just a few spots left for the Immersive Yoga experience in partnership with Expansion: Psychedelic Experience & Music Festival. The class will be held at Living Arts & Science Center’s planetarium + will feature music from Expansion artists and projected art from Liquified Lightshow.
Outdoors
  • Sunflower season has come early at Evans Orchard in Georgetown. The fields will open for photos, picking, and a moment of zen beginning this Friday, July 26 at 10 a.m. And mark your calendars for the Sunflower & Zinnia Festival Saturday, Aug. 3, 10 a.m.-9 p.m.
Kids
  • Act Swift-ly because these events are sure to sell out. Ballet Under the Stars returns to Woodland Park on Wednesday, July 31-Sunday, Aug. 4. Special this year will be the addition of a children’s ballet pre-show, “Ballet 13: A Tribute to Taylor Swift” and two Swif-Tea Parties.
Drink Up
  • Thirsty? Well (or top-shelf), the wait is over — Drink Up Week has arrived. We’re celebrating our city’s vibrant beverage culture through Friday, July 26 with buzzy deals from local businesses including the $8 Barrel-Aged Perfect Manhattan at Bespoken Spirits. Find a deal + toast to Lexington’s entrepreneurs, mixologists, venues, and drinks.
Wellness
  • This hearing device is not for everyone… because not everyone wants to talk to other people. (We’re sometimes in our introvert era, too.) But if you do want to have clear conversations, meet the first hearing aid designed with conversation in mind. Bonus: It’s so small, it’s basically unnoticeable.*
Finance
  • Did you know you could finance your fixer-upper with home equity? You could get up to $50K with a HELOC — calculate your payment.*

Transportation

Learn about road projects before they happen

Meet TIP: the Transportation Improvement Program

The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is hosting a public open house tomorrow, Wednesday, July 24 to talk about the Transportation Improvement Project (TIP).

TIP helps our MPO prioritize transportation projects throughout the city, and categorizes them in four phases of implementation:
  • Design — confirm a project’s layout, appearance, and feature
  • Acquiring right-of-way — completing a project by getting access to necessary land
  • Relocating utilities — making sure that water, sewer, and electric lines are available to service a project’s surrounding area
  • Construction — when a project is actually built
Some examples of projects include roadway retrofits, new construction, pedestrian additions + improvements, studies, and plans. Fun fact: Projects such as studies + plans may never make it to the construction phase and are identified as “non-construction TIP projects.”

Head to the Marksbury Family Branch of the Lexington Public Library (2197 Versailles Rd.) on Wednesday, July 24, 4-6 p.m. to learn more about roadway projects taking place in the next four years.
