Meet TIP: the Transportation Improvement Program

The Lexington Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) is hosting a public open house tomorrow, Wednesday, July 24 to talk about the Transportation Improvement Project (TIP).

TIP helps our MPO prioritize transportation projects throughout the city, and categorizes them in four phases of implementation:

  • Design — confirm a project’s layout, appearance, and feature
  • Acquiring right-of-way — completing a project by getting access to necessary land
  • Relocating utilities — making sure that water, sewer, and electric lines are available to service a project’s surrounding area
  • Construction — when a project is actually built

Some examples of projects include roadway retrofits, new construction, pedestrian additions + improvements, studies, and plans. Fun fact: Projects such as studies + plans may never make it to the construction phase and are identified as “non-construction TIP projects.”

Head to the Marksbury Family Branch of the Lexington Public Library (2197 Versailles Rd.) on Wednesday, July 24, 4-6 p.m. to learn more about roadway projects taking place in the next four years.
