Best practices to have the best time at the Woodland Art Fair

Get ready for an awesomely artistic weekend, y’all. This Saturday, Aug. 17 + Sunday, Aug. 18, the Woodland Art Fair returns to Woodland Park.
Before we get into our pro tips + best practices, let’s look at some numbers:
It’s the 48th year for this annual event hosted by Lexington Parks & Recreation + the Lexington Art League
The park sees an average attendance of 70,000+ over the weekend
There will be ~200 artists to browse
It was ranked No. 40 on the Top 100 Fine Art & Design Fairs list by Sunshine Artist Magazine

🚗 Parking
There is loads of street parking in the area, but go slow, as there will be plenty of pedestrians about. Keep an eye out for a spot on:
Clay Avenue
Central Avenue
Woodland Avenue
Oldham Avenue
Euclid Avenue
🍻 Snacks, libations + merriment
Music + entertainment will kick off daily at 10 a.m., where you can soak in the sounds and sights of Deep Nourished Roots and Mecca Dance Studio, just to name a few.
Explore some of the culinary arts the festival has to offer, such as local bevs from Lexington Brewing Company and Wise Bird Cider + bites from Jasmine Rice and Sav’s Chill. Don’t forget to hydrate and pack an umbrella — it’s gonna be a warm one.
🛍️ Neighborhood entertainment
While the Woodland Art Fair is the main event, don’t forget about visiting the surrounding neighborhood businesses in the Woodland Triangle. Use that artistic inspiration to create your own candle at Poppy & Pomelo’s Wick & Mortar Studio, or drink the rainbow with a refreshing juice or smoothie bowl at The Press Juice & Health Bar.
Pro tip: Keep your eyes peeled for vendors set up along streets outside the park as well.

Once you’re done eyeing the art at Woodland, browse local boutiques at this weekend’s Boutique Bazaar. Ten local businesses — including Peggy’s, Bella Rose, and Stuart Mercer — will be taking over Oleika Shriner’s Temple offering big discounts. Shop until you drop Saturday, Aug. 17, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. + Sunday, Aug. 18, 12-4 p.m.
Eat
Rolling Oven, the onsite eatery at Mirror Twin, has released some new menu items. The fan-favorites are still there, like fire-roasted vegetables + whipped feta dip, along with the addition of new pizzas, like the pork pesto with honey garlic pesto, red peppers, and feta.
Today Is
Webster Wednesday. What exactly does that mean, you might ask? Every Wednesday, Tuk Tuk Snack Shop donates a dollar from every Webster Sandwich order to the Woodford Humane Society.
Learn
Registration is open for the Fall session at the UK Fine Arts Institute. Adults ages 18+ can keep the learning going with 12 different classes like ceramics, photography, and theater. There are also day workshops available including painting + woodworking.
Outdoors
To help soak in that last little bit of summer, the Kentucky Children’s Garden is hosting a Teacher & School Employee Appreciation Day this Saturday, Aug. 17. With a valid ID, teachers and school employees will receive free admission for one adult + one child from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Third annual Bike Walk Kentucky Summit returns to Transylvania University this weekend

Calling all cycling + walking enthusiasts. There’s a wheel-y fun opportunity coming up this week. The third annual Bike Walk Kentucky Summit is returning to Transylvania University on Thursday, Aug. 15 + Friday, Aug. 16.
The event will host workshops, breakout sessions, “beerstorming,” and social rides aimed at educating attendees and connecting leaders + advocates to create a safer and more accessible pedestrian system.
The breakout sessions will cover a variety of topics including:
Cultivating a bike-friendly culture
Trails of Inclusion: Adaptive Mountain Biking
Lexington History Walking Tour
The keynote presentations will feature national advocates like Bill Nesperwith the League of American Bicyclists, as well as local musician + bike enthusiast Ben Sollee.
