Thinking about embracing Pantone’s Color of the Year with rich mocha mousse tones or finally giving curtain bangs a go? Maybe you’re curious about the buzz around Scandinavian hairlines or excited about the return of the side part. Staying on top of hair trends can feel overwhelming, but that’s where Kaitlyn Hubert and her team at Pelo Beauty Collective can help.

With 15 years of experience as a hairstylist and skin care expert, the owner of Pelo Beauty Collective is helping Kentuckians stay in the know while discovering their best looks. We recently caught up with Hubert to see where Pelo is headed in 2025 and what clients can expect when they visit.

Q: What type of experience can people expect when they visit Pelo?

A: When guests visit Pelo, they can expect a warm + welcoming environment and a professional and relaxed experience from start to finish. They can expect a clean salon, vibey music, and great smells.

Q: What are clients currently interested in when they come into the salon?

A: Clients are really interested in natural, organic products and treatments that promote healthy hair and skin. Treatments like balayage and lived-in color are also very popular.

Q: For those curious about lash extensions, are they hard to maintain?

A: The duration of the lash extensions varies by each client but typically lasts two to three weeks before they need to be touched up again. Our team ensures you’re fully prepared with aftercare tips to keep them looking flawless — and lasting longer.

Q: I want to try something new with my hair, but I’m not sure where to start. How can the Pelo team help?

A: We start with a personalized consultation to understand each client’s hair type, lifestyle, and preferences and recommend a look that’s both trendy and practical. From subtle highlights to bold cuts, Pelo ensures you leave the salon feeling confident. The team also can recommend products + techniques to maintain the results and keep hair healthy.

Q: What beauty trend are you hoping to see customers embrace/try for the first time in 2025?

A: We are hoping to see more of our guests make hair health a priority.

City Council gets STREEET smart

The STREEET Task Force looks to improve travel safety for all modes of transportation in Fayette County. | @femibranded
If upping traffic safety was a resolution for the new year, then city officials are off to a good start. Vice Mayor Dan Wu announced the creation of the Shared Travel Requires Engineering, Education & Enforcement of Traffic Safety Task Force (STREEET).

Tasked with preventing traffic accidents, pedestrian injury, and property damage, STREEET will focus primarily on short-term solutions, while supporting the Complete Streets policy.

The taskforce will be co-chaired by Councilmembers Liz Sheehan and Dave Sevigny + made up of community partners, LFUCG staff, and fellow council members. Local transportation advocate Alice Hilton will serve as a community representative, and said that people are eager to “create safer streets” that “support healthy, thriving communities.”

Vice Mayor Wu added that STREEET’s solutions for reducing traffic collisions + dangerous driving would come from three key areas:
  • Engineering
  • Education
  • Enforcement
