This year Blue Grass Trust (BGT) is celebrating 70 years of education, advocacy, and historic preservation in the Central Kentucky area.

Today, we’re sharing our conversation with BGT Executive Director Jonathan Coleman from 2022 to learn a little bit more about the group behind those famous bronze signs adorning historical places.

About BGT

BGT is a donor-funded nonprofit that aims to protect + promote special historic buildings in the community. “Basically, we’re a group of concerned citizens, with a mission to educate, provide service, and mostly to advocate for preservation,” said Coleman.

“We want to make preservation accessible for everyone. We don’t care if it’s a 1950s bungalow or 1700s mansion,” he added. The group can lead you to available historic tax credits or people who can properly renovate older homes.

If you resolved to learn something new this year, the Living Arts & Science Center is here to support you. And while the nonprofit is a haven for kids’ camps and experiences, it just announced the lineup of classes for its Adult Art Club. Think: Pasta-making, herbalism, mug-making, and wheel-throwing.

Classes will take place every Tuesday in February + March, 5:30-7:30 p.m., with two bonus classes in April. The club offers attendees two creative outlets to choose from — cooking or ceramics.

If Tuesdays don’t work for you, maybe one of these workshops will fit your schedule:
  • Couple’s Wheel-Throwing | Just like in the movie “Ghost,” you + your partner are invited to a fun, messy, and romantic time throwing clay. Tickets are $70-$80 and good for two attendees.
  • Beginner Basketry: Learn to Weave | Learn basketry techniques and tricks to make your very on egg basket from reed material. Tickets are $70-80.

The Buy
