Bluegrass Greensource | Become Green Force certified by attending four free sessions about sustainability topics like waste management, sustainable business practices, and more. After course completion, you can lead volunteer sessions + advocate for a greener Bluegrass.

There’s a new, 16-ton art installation in town. The concrete sculpture of Maclurite, a fossil commonly found in Lexington’s limestone, was recently unveiled at Gatton Park on the Town Branch. The sculpture is the first of many planned art installations for the park, which is set to open in late summer. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

Tahlsound Music Festival will return for the summer starting this Sunday, April 27 — and the lineup is looking great. Gates will open at 5 p.m. to welcome LME for a “School of Rock” performance + Ella Webster, Candy Mountain Music, Rebecca Rego, and Bee Taylor.

Sports

UK men’s basketball freshman Travis Perry has officially entered the transfer portal. The guard averaged 2.7 points per game in his freshman season + ended his high school career with over 5,000 points. (LEX18)

Environment

The University of Kentucky recently launched a new composting system. The new system allows UK to compost more materials + do so right on campus — the school’s food waste was previously transported to Woodford County. (UKNOW)

On Tuesday, April 29, Hope Blooms — a fundraising event benefitting the Sexual Violence Resource Center of the Bluegrass — will take place at Wise Bird Cider Co. from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tickets cost $50 and include two drink tickets, appetizers, and access to a flower bar where you can create a custom bouquet.

Applications are open for kindergarten through 12th grade educators to apply for the city’s Teachers’ Environmental Academy. Participants will take part in a week-long workshop on Lexington’s environmental challenges and will leave with resources to share what they’ve learned in the classroom.
