News Notes

Mansion Monday

Classic old home exterior, updated interior. Originally built in 1931, this 5-bedroom, 5,400 sqft brick home in Woodland Park is undergoing a complete renovation. Make it your own, or see it in August during the 2025 Tour of Remodeled Homes.

Active

Get ready for the 2025 Kids Triathlon, open to young athletes ages 6-14. This thrilling event kicks off at 7:30 a.m. on Sunday, Aug. 17. Whether you’re racing or lending a hand, this is your chance to be part of a memorable day. Register to participate or volunteer.*

Eat

After skipping last year’s Nathan’s Famous Fourth of July hot dog eating contest due to a contract dispute, Joey Chestnut will return to the 2025 competition. We think he should give our local hot dogs a try. (AP)

Number

3.3%. That’s how much the price of bananas rose in May, according to Consumer Price Index data. The good news is that it’s peach season anyway, and you can find plenty at local farmers markets. And it could be worse — remember the $6.24 million banana duct taped to a wall? (Axios)

Tech

1.1 million. That’s how many Nintendo Switch 2 units were sold in its first week, breaking the record for launch week video game hardware sales. If you weren’t able to get one, don’t worry, it’s not the only source of summer fun in Lexington. (Game Rant)

Seasonal

New season, new sign. It’s officially time for Cancers through Tuesday, July 22. This water sign is known for being loyal, empathetic, and somewhat emotional — if you’re a Cancer, we think Chevy Chase is your perfect neighborhood match.

Finance

62. That’s the age when homeowners qualify for a reverse mortgage to turn home equity into cash without monthly payments. See how it works and view Money’s list of best lenders with A+ BBB ratings and competitive pricing.*

Erin here. 👋 A friend recently took me to Old School Coffee on Mill Street — I love the big windows and bright-but-cozy vibes. I almost always order a cortado, but an iced latte with their house-made blueberry syrup is a favorite of mine. Plus, they’re now serving up cinnamon buns and bacon-pimento scones from Futile.
