A horse show? In Lexington?

The Horse Capital of the World is preparing for yet another world-class equestrian event.

The Bluegrass Festival Horse Show returns to Kentucky Horse Park later this month. Olympic-caliber horses + riders will compete in a range of categories and contests from Tuesday, Aug. 12 to Sunday, Aug. 17. Admission starts at $14 and offers full access to the park. We recommend finding a moment to hit up the International Museum of the Horse and its range of exhibits exploring the storied relationship between horses and humans.

News Notes

An image of a red jellyfish on a USPS stamp. The background is black, with a landscape orientation, and the writing "bioluminescent life" and "USA forever" written on the sides. The red jellyfish fills most of the rectangular space and is swimming to the right with its tentacles hanging behind it.

What do you sting of think?

See that picture above? Imagine getting one of those in the mail. No, not the jellyfish. USPS is hosting a vote through the end of September to bring back some of its most popular stamps, with options including Pixar characters, American history, and birthday shoutouts. Have your say.

Mansion Monday

Timeless architectural elegance awaits at this Walnut Grove Estates home that just hit Lexington’s real estate market. A welcoming stone fireplace greets you as you enter, and an open-plan design lends itself to spacious interiors. We’re not sure if the custom UK golf cart is included.

Number

10,752. That’s how many days there were between the release of “Happy Gilmore” back in 1996 and the recent long-awaited sequel. If you waited that long to hit up one of Lexington’s stellar golf courses, your short game probably needs some work.
Older generations are getting confused by the “Gen Z stare” — a blank and expressionless glance that usually conveys boredom, judgement, or indifference. It’s often done by younger people in public; if you haven’t seen it yet, be on the lookout next time you’re waiting at a local coffee shop. (The Guardian)

Active

20%. That’s how many adults play team sports in the US — up from 11% in 2020. That means more potential pickleball partners if you want to play doubles. (Axios)

Pets

Our tails are wagging — it’s officially August, which is National Dog Month. The best way to celebrate is by spending some quality time with your four-legged friends, and we recommend exploring one of these local, dog-friendly businesses.

Beyoncé ended her Cowboy Carter tour with a nostalgic surprise, reuniting Destiny’s Child to sing a medley of their greatest hits. While we couldn’t be there in Las Vegas when it happened, you’ll find us performing the encore at Night Kitty Karaoke. (Variety)

Learn

From stargazing yoga to hands-on science fun, The LASC has a lineup that’s anything but ordinary.
