Unknown number calling? It’s not random

Incogni can help remove your personal information from the web. | Image via Incogni
Using hidden cameras, the BBC caught workers at a scam call center laughing at the people they were tricking.

The disturbing truth? Scammers don’t pick phone numbers at random. They buy your data from brokers.

Once your data is out there, it’s not just calls. It’s phishing, impersonation, and identity theft.

That’s why Incogni stands out. The data removal service deletes your personal info from the web, then continuously monitors and removes new data as fresh threats emerge.

News Notes

Holiday

Gatton Park will transform into Winter Village from Dec. 4–23, featuring an 80-foot Christmas tree, hundreds of thousands of holiday lights, private igloos, cozy gathering spots with fire pits, seasonal treats, and more.

Open

Lexington officials and community members gathered to celebrate the opening of a new playground at Masterson Hills Park yesterday. Designed with community input, the playground has age-specific sections with slides, swings, climbing, spinning, and balancing features.

Drink

Wise Bird Cider Co. is hosting its 5th annual Kentucky Cider Days, kicking off Tuesday, Nov. 4 with a five-day series of cider festivities hosted around the city. The series ends with Cider Fest on Sunday, Nov. 9 where you can taste local + regional ciders and special releases.

Weather

It’s been a cold, rainy past few days, and it’s shaping up to be a chilly but dry Halloween night. After one more rainy day, skies should clear by tonight. Expect highs in the mid-50s, dropping after sunset, so make sure trick-or-treaters have warm layers under their costumes. (LEX 18)

Arts

Lexington city leaders are meeting today to announce plans for 250Lex Arts Month, part of the city’s 250th anniversary celebration. November will spotlight local creativity and the city’s artistic community with events and performances. Stay tuned for coverage of arts-specific happenings as details emerge.

Seasonal

The most famous Christmas tree in the US has been chosen. A 75-year-old Norway Spruce will light up New York City’s Rockefeller Center this upcoming holiday season, donated by a family from upstate NY. Soon enough, we’ll be hunting for the perfect tree of our own at Barker’s Christmas Tree Farm. (NBC)

Outdoors

Prolific mountaineer Jim Morrison recently became the first person to ski down the Hornbein Couloir — an exceptionally steep section of Mount Everest’s north face. National Geographic is releasing a documentary about Morrison’s death-defying feat, with no release date yet set. A local hike is enough of a challenge for us.

Eat

It looks like Kentuckians believe in the power of sweet potatoes. That’s the most popular superfood in the state, based on Google search data compiled by Eachnight. If you want to buy some, or see what other goodies are growing in LEX, head to a local farm shop.
