Lexington’s path to a more sustainable future

It’s officially the second annual Waste Reduction Week, Lexington.

This week, our community is invited to think about how we use — and reduce — our everyday waste. We often talk about recycling, but it’s Reduce, Reuse, Recycle for a reason.

Reducing our consumption is the most powerful way to help both our community and our planet.

Want to get involved? Try these small steps:
  • Use reusable water bottles, silverware, and shampoo bars to cut down on single-use plastic
  • Swap paper towels for cloths
  • Replace a few car trips with a bus ride or bike ride. Pro tip: the Transit App makes it easy.
  • Grow your own food or buy local to cut emissions and support our local economy
Plus, check out community events happening throughout the week.

As Anne Marie Bonneau said, “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.”
It’s easy being green

Shopping in Hamburg Pavilion took an unexpected turn when I wandered into the new Spirit Christmas store. Despite dwindling inventory, staff were restocking, and the aisles were full of decor, Disney items, stocking stuffers, and holiday gag gifts.
