cafe patachou grand opening in the summit

The first 50 guests today get a branded travel mug and free drip coffee through the end of the year.

Cafe Patachou is celebrating its grand opening at Fritz Farm today, and I was lucky enough to get an early taste of this new must-visit all-day cafe.

We sampled a lineup of fan favorites — the Ricotta Scrambled Eggs (perfect if you like a little heat), the avocado-style Patawich, and, of course, one of their most-loved dishes: the cinnamon toast.

Our meal was paired with house-made lattes — and don’t forget the bottomless sips from the self-serve coffee bar featuring Cafe Patachou blends, which you can buy alongside t-shirts, totes, and other merchandise.

Pro tip: If you’re not in a breakfast mood, the lunch menu is extensive, with a can’t-miss chicken salad plus plenty of bowls and sandwiches.

As the holiday season approaches, one local program is giving Lexington shoppers a new way to go green — and support local businesses.

Green Check is a free initiative that helps local businesses, nonprofits, and places of worship measure and improve their sustainability efforts.

Participants complete a fair and comprehensive scoring process to earn Member, Bronze, Silver, or Gold status (with many raising the bar each year to reach higher certification levels).

All resources, consultations, and materials are provided free of charge to organizations in Fayette County.

The program offers guidance in areas like waste reduction, energy efficiency, and water quality, and supports a range of sectors, including:
  • Retailers
  • Restaurants
  • Apartments
  • Nonprofits
  • And more
So as you make your list (and check it twice), be on the lookout for Green Check Certified businesses committed to sustainability and community impact.

News Notes

Open

Millstone, an elevated Kentucky dining experience in Dudley Square, officially opened for dinner this week. The space underwent a major renovation, but leaned into the historic charm of the building. The menu offers a grilled ribeye, chicken and gnocchi, signature cocktails, and so much more. Reserve your spot today.

Opening

The team behind Coles 735 Main and Epping’s on Eastside will open Black Squirrel in downtown Versailles by late December 2025. The new spot will serve Kentucky-inspired breakfast and lunch in a historic Main Street building with a nod to Woodford County’s saddlebred heritage.

Civic

Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government recently voted against rezoning guidelines, which would have demolished 12 National Register-listed historic sites in the Rose, Kalmia, Maxwell, and Stone Street areas, according to a social media post by Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation.

Award

Good Housekeeping crowned Lexington the Triple Crown of Girls’ Weekend — noting favorite girlfriend gatherings like Lexington’s Tea and Brie and candle-making workshops at Poppy and Pomelo. Keep the good times rolling and grab your girls for a happy hour drink or a brunch date at our favorite spots.

Arts

When did modern art begin? Well, a new exhibit in London suggests it was earlier than previously thought, with one particular painting creating a whole new potential timeline for the genre. Don’t travel across the pond to find artistic inspiration — check out the galleries in Lexington. (BBC)

The LFUCG vote also denied the approval for a 332-unit apartment building branded as a HUB complex, which is primarily off-campus housing for University of Kentucky students, according to the Lexington Herald-Leader.

Two other large student housing projects have already been approved in the East Maxwell neighborhood.
