Mayor Linda Gorton will deliver the State of the City-County Address today at 11:30 a.m. at Central Bank Center, weather permitting.

The annual address typically covers local challenges, recent wins, community data, and future priorities for the city, and is often broadcast by Lex TV and other local channels for those watching remotely.

The event is hosted in collaboration with Lexington Forum, an organization committed to having important community conversations.

Civic

City waste collection was canceled Monday through Wednesday. Only trash pickup is scheduled for Thursday routes as crews continue clearing roads. Pro tip: Follow Live Green Lexington and the snow and ice updates page for the latest on streets, waste services, closures, delays, and more.

Transit

Lextran reopened its renovated Vine Street transit center this week, featuring cosmetic upgrades and improved exterior lighting. Riders also have access to more interior seating, an indoor customer service area, and digital kiosks. (Lexington Herald-Leader)

UK’s Stanley and Karen Pigman College of Engineering is now offering Kentucky’s first Bachelor of Science in artificial intelligence (AI). The Department of Computer Science will teach students how to use AI effectively and responsibly, honing skills like programming, algorithms and computational modeling, and more. (UKNow)

Ashland, The Henry Clay Estate will offer special Black History Tours during the week of Feb. 9 in observance of Black History Month. The tours focus on the lives and legacy of enslaved African Americans and the Black employers who later helped build and sustain Ashland.
