How to navigate Lexington’s bus system

From downtown stops to airport routes, Lextran makes navigating the city simple. Learn how to plan your trip, find fares, and make the most of public transit.

Whether you need reliable transportation or just a lift on days when driving isn’t an option, we’ve put together a quick guide to Lexington’s busing system.

Lextran, Lexington’s public transit service, makes it easy to get from point A to point B — and all the stops in between. From cozy coffee shops to the city’s newest restaurants, you don’t need a car to explore the fun.

Bus Routes

Lextran offers 25 main routes with 886 stops across the city. There are four nighttime routes located on Woodhill Drive, Georgetown Road, Versailles Road, and Eastland.

There is a specialty Virginia Avenue and Downtown shuttle for UK Football transportation. It begins three hours prior to kickoff and costs $1 in exact cash.

Riders can stay up to date with Lextran’s news for information about other specialty shuttles throughout the year. Lextran is currently serving Keeneland’s Fall meet. Stay tuned for Spring Meet fare announcements.

Pro tip: Route 8 - Versailles Road is the stop for Blue Grass Airport.

Pricing

Trips with Lextran can be purchased as a single ride, day pass, 20-ride pass, 30-day pass, or a student class pass.

Fares start at $1 for an adult and .80 cents for youth (7-18) with discounts available for students, seniors, people with disabilities, veterans, and Medicare cardholders.

Pro tip: University of Kentucky students can ride campus buses for free with their UK ID through UK and Lextran’s partnership.

Accessibility

Lextran offers a service called Wheels, a shared ride, door-to-door transportation option for Lexington residents with disabilities.

The program is an addition to Lextran’s regular bus routes and provides accessible rides for the community 365 days a year.

The service hours are:

  • Monday-Friday: 5:21-12:30 a.m.
  • Saturday: 5:23-12:30 a.m.
  • Sunday: 5:41 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.
