March is National Craft Month — the perfect excuse to dive into a creative hobby. Whether you want to pick up a new skill or DIY some fresh home decor, the City of Lexington’s daily calendar is a great place to begin.

Lexington Parks & Recreation announced Pace in Parks, a free 10-week 5K and 10K training program with John’s Run/Walk Shop ahead of the 50th annual Bluegrass 10,000 on July 4. The all-level program begins Saturday, April 25 at Wellington Park.

It’s finally time to spring forward. Daylight saving time will take place this Sunday, March 8. Although you lose an hour of sleep, we get later sunsets, which is a win in my mind. Make getting up a bit easier with a cup of coffee from one of Lexington’s cafes. (ABC)

Seedleaf has announced its spring programming, including the opening of its gardens Tuesday, March 10 at North Pole Community Garden. April’s events include a nature writing workshop at Headwater Farm, and a pair of events at Greyline Station.

The fifth annual Swahili Day African Cultural Festival is set for Saturday, June 13 at Gatton Park. Organizers say more details about the celebration of Swahili culture, music, and community will be announced soon.

History
Military Missions will honor Vietnam and Vietnam-era veterans with an Honor Train Ride on Sunday, March 29 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Bluegrass Railroad Museum. Up to 50 veterans may attend and bring a guest in recognition of National Vietnam War Veterans Day. To participate, contact Fred Doster at 859-396-6923 or by email.
