Speaking of parks, Mayor Linda Gorton announced that the city has received a $10 million grant for the its new Legacy Business Park .
Presented by US Representative Andy Barr, the grant was allotted through Congressionally Directed Spending , which allows members of Congress to request funding for specific projects.
The money will complete the necessary funding, ~$22.4 million, to finish the infrastructure for the multi-business development. Think: Roads, sewers, and sidewalks.
Located at Georgetown Road and I-75, the 200-acre business park was mentioned during Mayor Gorton’s State of the City and County Speech as a priority for economic + development goals.
“This new business park means jobs for our residents and tax revenue for our city,” said Mayor Gorton. She estimated that Legacy Business Park
would create ~1,700 jobs + $2.9 million in annual tax revenue once completed.
