Monday, Jan. 13-Friday, Jan. 17 is Art Beat Week at the library — five days of artistic expression highlighting a different art form each day including drama, dance, written and spoken word, visual arts, and music.

Memory and the Five Senses | 2:30-3:30 p.m. | Take a step back in time + jog your memory in this sensory exploration workshop aimed at elevating your ordinary lived experience.
Meet the Author | 4:30-5:30 p.m. |
Author Mary Knight will be on hand to inspire young writers and discuss her new book, “What the Seahorse Told Me.”
Song Farmers | 5:30-6:30 p.m. | Join the Songfarmers of Lexington for a community jam at the Marksbury Family Branch. Bring your instrument, your voice, a song, or all three! Listeners and all skill levels are welcome.

Theatre Dance & Drama for Adults | 2:30-3:30
Enjoy a performance from Lexington Theatre Company’s Theatre Dance Performance Group, and then get on your feet + bust a move. The dance lesson will be followed by a theatre and acting workshop.
Musical Theatre for Youth | 4:30-5:30 p.m. | In partnership with the Lexington Theatre Company’s Artist Development Program, kids in grades K-5 will explore the magic of musical theatre through music, movement, and storytelling.
Wednesday, Jan. 15
Pre-School Dance | 11-11:45 a.m. | The Bluegrass Youth Ballet invites children ages 3-5 to try out this creative movement class to learn about rhythm, and locomotor and non-locomotor movement.
Tradiciones de mi Tierra | 5:30-6:30 p.m. | Enjoy an exciting showcase of traditional Mexican dances complete with vibrant costumes, lively music, and energetic choreography. Following the performance, audience members will be invited to join in with step-by-step guidance.
Thursday, Jan. 16
Harlem Renaissance Art | 2-3 p.m. | On the Move Art Studio will dive into the cultural movement from the early 1900s that celebrates Black identity, creativity, and intellectual achievement.
Art Class | 4:30-5:30 p.m. | This youth class will give kids ages 7+ guided instruction on drawing and painting basics to create their own piece of artwork.
Friday, Jan. 17
Piano Recital | 4:30-5 p.m. | This special musical journey from Dana Martin Studio will feature a performance from some of our community’s bright young pianists.
