Bourbon and horses — that’s what Kentucky does. And that’s what greets us this Friday with the opening weekend of the 2021 Fall Meet at Keeneland. This year also marks 85 years of racing at the historical + picturesque racecourse. From the tree-lined entrance, to the paddock parade and the cheering of the crowd — we’re ready to dress up and get down at the track. Read on for some winning picks so you can make the most out of one of Lexington’s beloved pastimes.

Let’s get digital

  • General admission caps will be enforced so if you don’t want to miss out — get your tickets ahead of time. You can download tickets onto your phone + scan for admission. Heads up: The Lexington + Equestrian rooms are both sold out but a few days remain open in the Phoenix Room.

Pro tip: Check the ticketing website often — purchasers can return tickets up to 48 hours before race day.

The Hills are alive

  • Skip the tickets, grab your crew and hang on The Hill. Each Friday + Saturday you can watch and wager from your own tailgate. A jumbotron, wagering tent, food trucks, and live music from The Burl will all be on-site — anyone else getting festival vibes?

Pro tip: Take the money you save on ticket fees, and place it on a longshot.

Local fare

  • Concessions get an upgrade with the addition of local faves — Sav’s Gourmet Ice Cream + Down the Stretch Pizza. Dining rooms will also have some local flavor with help from Black Soil KY.

Pro tip: Check out the food trucks that will be on site by the North Terrace on Fridays + Saturdays.
