On Tues., Oct 26, city council members met to discuss how Lexington should spend its $120 million in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds.
Council members decided to set aside $12 million for affordable housing, tourism, broadband internet in North Lexington + homeless initiatives.
That still leaves $108 million on the table + dozens of proposed projects. Today we’re breaking down the proposed projects by subgroups so that you know how the city is thinking about spending the remaining ARPA funds.
Infrastructure Projects
- $17.5 million for Coldstream Infrastructure projects
- $3 million for tree canopy improvements
- $300k for solar energy
- $1.2 million for pedestrian projects
- $4.5 million for government infrastructure
Parks & Recreation
- $10 million for a new Cardinal Run North park
- $10 million for various park updates including sports courts, greenways + playgrounds
Critical City Services + Public Safety
- $3.1 million for breathing equipment for the Fire Department
- $6.1 million for Fire Department fleet replacements
- $5 million for Police Department fleet replacements
- $4 million for city government fleet replacements
- $600k for renovations to the Black and Williams gymnasium
- $2.5 million for a new Fire Department Training Academy facility
Equity Services
- $5 million for Housing Stabilization + Homelessness Prevention
- $10 million for affordable housing
- $920k for the Summer Youth Employment Program
- $350k for One Lexington
- $3 million for COVID Public Health Assistance
- $150k for the ADA Improvement Plan
Economic Development
- $1 million for VisitLEX + Hospitality Recovery
- $7.5 million for Town Branch Park
- $12 million for Davis Commons Project
- $5 million for the Center for Economic Development
- $920k for Summer Youth Employment expansion
- $10.5 million for a Distillery District revitalization investment
- $991k for expanding Lexington’s minority business accelerator program
