Potholes are a fact of life on Lexington streets. Some catch drivers off guard, others are nearly impossible to miss — and they all have the potential to ruin a smooth ride.
Hit a pothole and spill your coffee pulling out of Kenwick Table? Say no more. You’re on a city-maintained road and can file a report by calling LexCall at 311 or filling out an online service request form. The operating hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Report a state-maintained pothole
Trying to navigate Nicholasville Road? This state-maintained road can’t afford any extra obstacles. You can file a report by calling the County Maintenance Garage at (859) 246-2059 or the Department of Highways, District Seven at (859) 246-2355. You can also fill out an online form with the Team Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The Recording Academy released this year’s nominations ahead of the 68th Grammy Awards on Feb. 1. Pop leads the pack with Sabrina Carpenter, Lady Gaga, and Editor Alexis’s new favorite, Olivia Dean — but around here, we still love our Bluegrass roots and hometown sounds. (The Washington Post)

Lexington is participating in Waste Reduction Week through Nov. 16 with workshops, Recycle Center tours, and the Green Cup program encouraging reusable mugs at local coffee shops. Join the city in learning ways to reduce, reuse, and rethink your waste this holiday season.
Cause
Bananimal, a resilient pup who went missing after adoption, was recently rescued following an accident in which she lost a leg. She’s now recovering under the care of the Lexington Humane Society, which is accepting donations to support her ongoing treatment and care.
Mansion Monday
A stair-climbing robot vacuum is among Time Magazine’s 300 best inventions of 2025. If it takes a wrong turn, you can also use voice commands to help it out. That makes the prospect of cleaning this recently listed Lexington mansion a little less daunting.
Drink
A taste of the Big Easy is gaining popularity across the country, according to the New York Times. The Obituary is a martini made with gin, vermouth, absinthe, and lemon zest, and is experiencing a renaissance. See if you can find one at a local happy hour.
Environment
Scientists have uncovered dozens of new aquatic species in the Southern Ocean, including a carnivorous “death ball” sponge that uses tiny hooks to capture its prey. You don’t need to travel that far to see local wildlife for yourself — Raven Run Nature Sanctuary is full of wonder. (ABC News)
