With the temperatures dropping, so might your motivation to get outside and get your heart pumping. To help you step out for some fresh air (and meet some fresh faces) we’re sharing five social running clubs that make the Bluegrass a great place to lace up.
  • Bluegrass Runners | Seasonal schedule varies | This club, better known as BGR, has been running in Central Kentucky for 50+ years. Join its Facebook Group for updates on local runs + find running buddies or race pacers.
  • John’s Striders — John’s Run/Walk Shop Running Club | Mondays-Thursdays + Saturdays | Depending on the day, runs start from one of three shop locations: Chevy Chase, Hamburg, or Palomar. All paces are welcome for group runs, stroller walks, and the free community 5Ks held on the second Saturday of each month. Bonus: The shop also has John’s Central KY Trail Club.
  • West Sixth Run Club | Tuesdays | This social running group builds community by tackling 1.5-3 miles beginning + ending at the brewery.

They say it’s not easy being green — but with the Green Check Program, it is.

This free certification program gives Fayette County businesses of all types and sizes the tools to improve sustainability, including:
  • Waste reduction
  • Energy efficiency
  • Water quality
The best part? Participation is free — all training, consultations, and materials are included.

How to get involved

Interest forms are open now through Jan. 31, 2026.

After applying, the City of Lexington schedules a consultation to review current practices and complete a Sustainability Scorecard. Members must score at least 30% to become certified.

You’ll receive a report outlining current efforts, areas for improvement, and a baseline environmental score. The city also helps businesses develop new strategies, with regular check-ins throughout the year.

Scorecards are updated as initiatives are completed, allowing members to reach Bronze, Silver, or Gold, with recognition at the annual Member Recognition Event and a personalized plaque.

Benefits include cost savings, higher revenue generation, employee retention, and more.
