Severe weather in western Kentucky and how you can help

Between Friday night + Saturday morning, severe storms devastated Western Kentucky. Multiple tornadoes were reported — with the most destructive touching ground for a stretch of ~220 miles.

19 counties in the western part of our state felt the effects of this weekend’s storms. The damage was so extensive that Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency.

The Lexington Fire Department sent people + resources to aid in the search and rescue effort + we wanted to let you know how you can help too.

We’re listing off five different ways you can donate + help out your fellow Kentuckians affected by this weekend’s storms.

Shop Local KY

This Lexington-based apparel brand created “Kentucky Strong” t-shirts. Shirts are $28 + 100% of the proceeds go to benefit those affected.

Kentucky Branded

This Lexington-based apparel company is also donating 100% of the proceeds from its “Pray for Kentucky Tee” to help those in need.

Ethereal Brewing Co.

This local brewery is donating 75% of sales from all to-go beer to those affected by the storms. This fundraiser applies to all three Lexington locations from now until Christmas.

Kentucky Education Development Corporation

Kentucky’s oldest and largest educational co-op is accepting donationsaiming to fill vans and buses with essential items to deliver to those in need. The most essential items are water, non-perishable food + cleaning supplies. Items are being collected until Fri., Dec. 17 and can be dropped off at 118 James Ct STE 60.

Team Kentucky

Gov. Andy Beshear established the Team Western Kentucky Tornado Relief Fund to assist Kentuckians impacted by the severe storms. All donations are tax-deductible + donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes after donating.
